The Spicy garlic component

Allicin

One of the most temperamental and yet powerful molecules from garlic is allicin.  Allicin derives from an enzyme called Alliinase, which is released when the structural integrity of fresh garlic is altered (e.g., cut or crushed). Alliinase catalyzes the formation of sulfenic acids from cysteine sulfoxides. Once formed, sulfenic acids begin transmuting into thiosulfinate compounds. In the case of alliin, the resultant compound is allicin. Allicin can provide broad-spectrum immune support and immunomodulating properties. Allicin is an incredibly potent antioxidant and induces metabolic stress on invasive pathogens by disrupting their defenses and starving them of metabolic elements and compounds.

How does one get the benefits of garlic?

There are a number of ways to get the benefits of garlic.  There are pills, oils, tinctures, and just plain eating them.  In our assessment, the best way to get the most benefits from garlic is to find a product that contains stabilized allicin.  Stabilized allicin products are manufactured in a way that protects allicin and provides a healthy dose of garlic in powder form.  One should be careful, however, when purchasing garlic supplements and search for "lab-tested and certified allicin" products.  One of our favorites is Stabilized Allicin by Cusprati.
